3 Years Later

Earlier this month, I completed by 3-year Somatic Experiencing training. Somatic Experiencing is a body-based trauma-healing modality developed by Dr. Peter Levine. I plan to write more about the modality in future posts, but for now, you can access information via the Somatic Experiencing International website.

I am so grateful for my teachers, mentors, and peers throughout the training process. Somatic Experiencing has completely shifted my practice, whether I am actively utilizing the modality during my sessions or not. I am observe my clients in session in a completely new way, expanding my view to a more holistic view.

Somatic Experiencing is a modality about slowing down. Allowing the body, the nervous system, to integrate experiences. It is not for folks who want quick fixes, but a willingness to trust the process can be life-changing. A lot of us have learned that our bodies are unsafe, due to emotional/physical pain, and have spent our lives up in our heads. It is life-changing to be able to listen to our bodies and meet our needs.

I look forward to sharing more about what Somatic Experiencing offers and how I incorporate Somatic Experiencing into my practice. For now, I just wanted to provide an update that I have completed this program (well, aside from a few clerical tasks) and that I am honored to be able to offer this modality in my practice.

As always, take what is helpful and leave the rest. I hope you have the week you need.
